Stuttering Awareness Day
International Stuttering Awareness Day is October 22, this upcoming Thursday!
Why Is It Important?
International Stuttering Awareness Day (ISAD), is important because it spreads information about this disability. Stuttering is not a disability that is taken seriously compared to others; most people are not aware of the extent stuttering has on a person's life. This day allows stutterers and stuttering allies to share information and gives them a platform.
Organized Event I am Holding?
This Thursday, I am promoting people to wear green, shown in the ribbon above. This ribbon/color shows your solidarity and that you are a stuttering ally. I am also holding an information stand with brochures and stuttering awareness pins at my school. I am hoping this will help teach and spread awareness about stuttering.
What Is A Stuttering Ally?
A stuttering ally is a person that shows support to the stuttering community by doing these things, but not limited too:
-standing up for a stutterer
-approaching a stutterer in the correct manner
-being educated on what stuttering is
-knowing ways that you can help
-BEING AN ADVOCATE
What Can You Do To Take Part In This Special Day?
Some things that you can do to spread awareness and take advantage of this day would be to spread awareness and become informed on stuttering as much as you can. You can post informative articles on your social medias and just spread love to the stuttering community.
